Weather and Time – They Matter
I was woken by the alarm clock. Tom has a thing about time, it is his German heritage, in fact I think we have more clocks and watches in this camper than we do cups and plates!!! We crossed into a new time zone yesterday and Tom slammed on brakes because all the watches had to be reset, I am a patient women. Unfortunately he made 2 mistakes, firstly he changed all the clocks and watches by the one hour difference except he went back an hour instead of forward an hour and he also or so he says accidently set the alarm. We were woken by the alarm telling us it was 0500 although in fact it was 0700. We were both wide awake but felt that 0500 was just too early to get up so we tossed and turned until it was a reasonable time to get up at 0700 according to our clocks although in actual fact it was 0900. Our bladders were bursting!
We headed for Toad River as we knew we could get internet there. While sitting in this remote corner of the world I was banging away on my computer answering all my emails, when I heard Tom across the little restaurant greeting someone like an old friend. It was an old friend, his friend excitedly telling Tom, “I finally got cell phone coverage and my damm phone nearly had an orgasm downloading 837 messages.” Men.
Driving south we noted a black sky ahead watched the lightening bolts streak across the sky but kept driving towards the storm until of course we were in the eye of the storm being pounded by hail and driving rains. Visibility was almost nil, Tom was driving but I was helping by yelling, “Pull over I can’t see a thing” to which he replied in a matter of fact tone, “No need for you to see you are not driving, I am driving and am doing fine.” I think sometimes he lies. We wondered if our solar panel would be in tatters and I consoled myself by being pleased at least I hadn’t paid for the truck to be washed at the last fuel stop. Still Scottish at heart.
Finally the rain stopped and we pulled into a campsite. We set up camp and oh boy the storm found us again. I watched out the window of our camp as the water rose around our camper and said to Tom, “Our truck is now in the middle of the river and I think there is a waterfall developing at our back steps” Life is never dull; get out the waders.
