Canadian Rockies or Alaska Mountains
We headed for Jasper National Park and were reminded just how different the Rocky Mountains are compared to the mountain ranges of Alaska. The Rocky Mountains are dramatic and harsh in their splendor, the grey rock faces in stark contrast to the blue lakes and sky. The Alaskan mountains are greener with trees growing right up the glaciers that seem to hang from every fault line in the mountains. They are just as spectacular but very different. So everyone has to put both the Rockies and Alaska on their bucket lists.
We arrived in Jasper during a long weekend and the roads were packed with RVs and cars, everyone out enjoying hiking, fishing or boating in the lakes and rivers. A nature wonderland and it revitalizes us every time we are outdoors.
Although I still have little moments of anxiety. I realize I am not as young as I used to be 6 years ago when we did our first overland trip across Africa. In fact as I was clambering up to bed in the camper heaving myself up I wondered if I would still be able to do this when I was 70 years. I was worrying as I want to drive across Asia, maybe I would be too old for such a trip in several years time. We needed to hurry to Argentina and across Asia before I was unable to heave myself up into bed.
I discussed it with Tom in the morning. “About driving across Asia” I said. “I think it will be different. Certainly driving across North America is different from Africa and I suspect Asia will be different to South America.” I suggested. Perhaps you could get a job in Asia and we could make side trips”
How come I am worrying about Asia when I have not even put my foot in South America sometimes I wonder about my sanity.
While traveling through Africa we are struck by the poverty when traveling through North America we are struck by the abundance.
